Andrea Bocelli: A Night in Tuscany
Amazon.com
Part concert, part documentary, part travelogue, this video hit duplicates the sleeper success of Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli’s album compilations and underscores his unique crossover appeal. In the U.S., Bocelli’s critical response has been confined to fusillades of scorn from classical and opera writers, but the bulletproof superstar is better understood in the context of Europe’s more established tradition of pop-classical fusions. Ironically, fans abroad are less prick… More >>

I have been reading the reviews of other amazon customers and all of them are very complementary. One mentiones that he does not understand the scorn towards him from the opera world. The answer is simple-the man is terrible. As a student of opera and the voice I am appalled to see such a discrace to the profession getting concerts. If you have ever heard him singing without the aid of microphones adn speakers you would really know the sham that is Andrea Bocelli. First of all his voice has no carrying power. He lacks basic knowlege of breath and support. The only thing he has going for him is an italian sounding voice. Sorry people if you want to learn of opera as it should be sung by those who have proven themselves on stage for decades listen to the 3 tenors. After listening to them you will find out what a true beautiful voice and love for the art is. LA Lastly I feel I must point out the other sad side of this. Some other person pointed out that Bocelli reminded him of another of his favorite classical singers, Sarah Brightman. This is the only thing I can agree with. She is without a doubt the worst female voice since Florence Foster Jenkins(anyone who wants to laugh really hard find a copy of her and listen.) The only way she got parts on Broadway was the fact that her husband was none other than ANDREW LLOYD WEBER. Bocelli is TERRIBLE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE, and a whole lot of other bad words that I can’t write and still be posted. PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS DVD AND THEN SAY YOU LIKE OPERA. HE IS NOT AN OPERA SINGER. SAYING THAT IS A MOCKERY OF 400 YEARS OF ART.

I don’t hear the emotion all the reviewers are talking about. As a professional singer for 20 years now who has a very fulfilling career I find that I must clarify a few things. I’m not going to go off on technique or anything like that, other reviewers have taken care of that for me. The things that people obvoiusly take for granted as a gift from God is not all that good when you have heard every song on this song sung 100’s of times by scores of other singers. You can enjoy his singing. There is beauty in any type of voice. The problem I have is that while praising him you set him as an example to others who don’t know a thing about what we singers do. It is true he does not fall into the category of those singers who while technically perfect are still very, very boring. He does fall into that category of person that was born with a tremendous gift. He does not, however use that gift effectively. When measured against what this voice has the capability of; I must say it was very disappointing. He is just another of those amateurs whose only saving grace is that he finds a way to put some “emotion” into his singing. Where I come from that is the bear minimum. People like Andrea Bocelli, and yes-Sarah Brightman, serve a purpose. They embody the very best of what and “amateur” is:A person who sings only for the love of music. Hopefully people will listen to them and develop interest in opera. If you liked Bocelli listen to Caruso, Vickers, Bjoerling, Corelli, Merrill, Milnes, Callas, Tebaldi, Scotto, Price, Peters, et al. All of these people manage, some how, to put emotion into their singing and sing with depth and power. After hearing these people you will understand why less understanding “students” of singing are so “vocal” about their derision of Bocelli. Thank You

I did not think that this was a very good recording. I do not think this man is a good singer. The most fun I had was reading the reviews for this product. I agree with Figaro and what he said-the man is terrible. This is coming from an amazingly not bitter 20 year old voice student. It actually gives me hope that if a singer this BAD can make it, that maybe someday I will too. Keep singing Bocelli, by the time I debut people will see a good singer as something of the past

The emotion and passion are inherent in the music itself.Thats why I think [Bocelli] keeps to the more Romantic level in hissinging. If he was singing Mozart he would not be able to get awaywith this kind of schmaltzy singing. With Romantic Opera some singers are able to get away with awful singing and then say that they are verismo singers and have sacrificed for the emotion of the piece. This is an insult to true practitioners of the verismo style of which many Puccini operas are a part of. This is not true with Bocelli. He has not the technical background to support his “passionate ” singing and for people to make excuses saying that his passion, which by the way I find very trite and superficial, to be a mistake of the highest order. Don’t get me wrong the man has his uses. People who like him may buy songs from better singers and actually find out what true classical voice really is. But to put him on the same level as the best singers in the business when he can’t even be heard without a microphone is an insult to people who have put 30 years of work to allow their voices to support the passion of both the composer and themselves.

Many so-called “professional” studiers of opera and the voice treat Andrea Bocelli like s**t. That’s probably `cause they say Andrea hasn’t made his professional mark. True, he may not be a professional, but ever since I heard him, I never grew weary of him. Even the young Luciano Pavarotti, on the 1967 recording of Verdi’s “Requiem,” just left me little interested in his Bocelli-like sentimental clichés, but if I heard him now, he wouldn’t take my breath away. He even said so himself: Andrea is better than him. The professionals who hate Andrea and call him an impostor obviously just think Bocelli can’t hack it in opera. They may think that Andrea sounds like a stand-up comedian wanting to become popular. Bulls**t. I think sexy Bocelli did enough to blow away the likes of the Three Tenors, whom he makes seem like the Three Stooges, professionals or not. Where the Three Tenors and several other classical singers I used to like, Sarah Brightman in particular, just drew me and then let go after a while, this man Andrea practically floored me, so much that now I’m held prisoner for life. To believe that no classical singer can ever wake me up out of my love for sexy Bocelli. I’m only 17, and it seems that I may be the youngest devout fan of Andrea Bocelli in the history of the world…..
