Bruce Springsteen – Born To Run

Posted by Top Songs

Bruce Springsteen – Born To Run 1975 (STUDIO) In the day we sweat it out in the streets of a runaway american dream At night we ride through mansions of glory in suicide machines Sprung from cages out on highway 9, Chrome wheeled, fuel injected and steppin out over the line Baby this town rips the bones from your back Its a death trap, its a suicide rap We gotta get out while were young `cause tramps like us, baby we were born to run Wendy let me in I wanna be your friend I want to guard your dreams and visions Just wrap your legs round these velvet rims And strap your hands across my engines Together we could break this trap Well run till we drop, baby well never go back Will you walk with me out on the wire `cause baby Im just a scared and lonely rider But I gotta find out how it feels I want to know if love is wild, girl I want to know if love is real Beyond the palace hemi-powered drones scream down the boulevard The girls comb their hair in rearview mirrors And the boys try to look so hard The amusement park rises bold and stark Kids are huddled on the beach in a mist I wanna die with you wendy on the streets tonight In an everlasting kiss The highways jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive Everybodys out on the run tonight but theres no place left to hide Together wendy well live with the sadness Ill love you with all the madness in my soul Someday girl I dont know when were gonna get to that place Where we really want to go and well walk in the sun But till then tramps like us baby we were born to run

There is no other song in rock and roll that carries the drama from the opening to the close like this song does…it keeps the musical tension tight every second of the song…still one of the great classic rock songs ever written.

I hear ya. I am much older, i suspect. this song so ripped at me, when I hear him do it non-electric i was seriously afraid it was the last time i was gonna hear it. I wept. I hope you have a song/artist that means as much to you. I hope that for my kids.

Shogo is pretty hard core awesome, but even though she dies, I think Takako Chisiuga is SOOO strong, I almost idolize her. And though Noriko seems weak, she has a lot of inner strength, which I admire. So I guess Noriko ( I don’t really want to die…)

i used to think that too, and i still kinda feel that this track would have been better without all of the strings and wierd sounds, but it is still a masterpiece. His first three albums are all masterpeices. you shouldn’t judge bruce springsteen by albums like born in the usa, which i think is a peice of 80s shit.

If you were a character in BR who you’d like to be???I´ll choose Shogo hands down.

Ok this may not be a popular comment to make given whats been said from the soap box, but I really like Bruce Springsteen – it has such a nostalgia value for me, my Dad used to play this album all the time when I was growing up and I still enjoy the music. I dont expect everyone/ anyone to share my musical tastes – we all like different things, and we are all entitled to our musical opinions ^^

Hey, crescentfreshbret – interesting comments – I thinks it’s pretty clear what isn’t your taste of music – anyway, I kinda agree. However, I learned long ago about criticizing “groups of people” for their music tastes from a 1958 album titled “50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can’t Be Wrong” – the numbers lend credibility in themselves.

Sorry. I’m off my soapbox now. I’ve just had that built up in me for a long time now.

due to the unspoken rule among critics that they must praise whatever music he puts out. If not that, he needs to at least stop making albums with the E Street Band. Now.

John Mellencamp level of fame and appreciation, but this man is seen as a sort of legendary figure in the world of music. As far as I’m concerned, he’s revolutionized nothing, and the only things that have happened in music because of him have been detrimental to it. He inspires people to make bad music and audiences and critics to laud such music. The music world would’ve done just fine without him. He needs to go away and stop making ridiculously hokey music that critics will praise…

kind of reverence he has (not just from knuckleheads who are incapable of appreciating good music but from people who have great taste) has boggled my mind for years now. I just plain don’t get it. It will always be one of the great mysteries of the world for me. It’s like all these people have been hypnotized or something and me and the few others who see Bruce’s music for the mediocre thing it is managed to avoid it. I would understand if he had just a Tom Petty or…

excruciatingly overwrought vocals that grind the very notion of subtlety into specks and make the lyrics seem even more ridiculous than they already are… and a horribly misguided musical arrangement that trys to be as many things as it can be at once and, in the process, ends up sounding like it doesn’t know WHAT it wants to be.

I know I’ll definitely be in the minority here with my opinion, but I have to wonder why I am. That this insanely over-rated schlub has received the…
