According to the interweb, “Frederick” was released as a single by Patti Smith in 1979, whereas this performance of “Prove It” by The Boss is from August 1978.

WOW…. I remember purchasing this bootleg (triple LP “Piece de Resistance) at Moby Disc in the San Fernando Valley around 1980 I had never heard an artist so re-work their own song (the opening here)… hearing this cut and thinking holy shit this is amazing…. and now to SEE it almost 30 years later here and it’s still super fresh and smokin’. Bruce really milks it and works it. MOVING!

This is the ultimate performance..as pure as it can be. Still a huge Springsteen fan, but I think that in the recent years his band and performance has become too big, too many instruments, too much a wall of sound. Not as clear and as straight as in the old days.

cats just don’t get how much heart and how hungry this guy was when this went down. we should all aspire to have the balls he did when he was getting after it in 75 with born to run and 78 with darkness. dude wanted it ALL. you don’t sell it the way he did in this vid, unless you wanted it badly. MAN’S GAME, BOSS.

I remember my dad bringing me to a Bruce concert in Jersey around ‘78! It was my first concert and I was about 14. This year I brought my 14 year old son to see him In Dublin and it brought back many great memories! Thanks Bruce!
