Cliff ‘Em All!

Description
Cliff ‘Em All, Metallica’s first video, is a tribute to late original bassist Cliff Burton. James Hetfield describes it as “a compilation of bootleg footage shot by sneaky Metallifux, stuff shot for TV that was never used, but we’ve held onto, home footage, personal fotos and us drunk. But most important, it’s really a look back at the 3-1/2 years that Cliff was with us and includes his best bass solos and the home footage and pix that we feel best capture his unique pers… More >>

‘Cliff ‘Em All’ is some of the worst produced footage i’v ever seen. So much for releasing a qaulity, professionaly made video.

Lets get this out of the way first; this is essentially a bootleg, a horrible one at that, that somehow got an officail release. I’m surprised that the band isn’t emmbarrased by this. Most of these shows sufferer from horrendus sound qaulity, volume levels drop in and out and the morons who shot these had trouble keeping the camera in one place. Most of the time the camera can’t even keep focused in one direction. However, it was great to see some of the footage with Mustaine so i can’t completey hate this.

It’s is supposed to be a tribute to Cliff, featuring some of his solos and rare pictures. I must say that he has to be one of the most overrated bassist ever, alot of his playing is just an pile of unlistenable mess. Over use of distortion and stomp boxes does not account for talent.

The onlt redeemiong feature is that it’s a good summary of them in their earlier years, when they had the fire and passion and were uncorrupted by greed.

Why the heck is this 17 year old bootleg-quality DVD so freaking expensive? Gee, could it be that the latter-day Hetfield is cashing in on the late, great Cliff, so he can buy that nifty Aston-Martin to add to his collection? Nooo, there’s no way that they could be that brazenly sold out. Wait a second – what’s that you’re telling me about Lars Ulrich and Napster? And that his drumming su_cks too? Oh my goodness.

I have read the reviews of this DVD submitted by other fans of Metallica and believe an honest account may save some money for someone. I too am a fan, not only of the band but also the DVD format. This recording may well be ‘raw’ and ‘gutsy’ but I found it disappointing. It does no justice to the band or the format. The picture quality is very poor throughout and the sound is terrible. Sorry but it’s only fair that people are aware of what to expect. Save your money for a more recent Metallica production. I wish I did!

Some strong performances by these boys. Seeing the last moments with cliff was a truly sad thing, yet great in a way as well. Cliff by far is or was not the greatest bassist ever, his work on all metallica albums in the 80’s wasnt produced that great, even though it had its kick ass moments with Anesthesia, for whom the bell tolls, and Orion. Steve Harris of Iron Maiden without a doubt is the greatest bassist ever if it came about. Your fingers dont get as fast as his on a 4 string ol fender. Still a terrific show and cliff was still an excellent bassist, extremely overrated now, but was still great.

Seeing Mustaine perform is even better, you want to talk about a great performer as well as a godly guitarist, watch mustaine crunch those riffs. Then Hammet came along, who as well plays great, but he by far is no dave mustaine and never will be, but replacing dave is beyond comprehension.

This was great, and this is when metallica were all about the music, and all about the fans. Sad to say, all that is dead now. Still we have the memories and its in this video. Get it if your a metalhead, even if you hate what metallica has become now, like me, still this was when they rocked. (Cliff RIP) Metal reigns!…
