Yeah it’s a little bit like my relationship with my girlfriend. She’s one of my mates’ exes (I know it sounds bad but it’s not) so we get a lot of “attention”.
Everyone’s always onto us about if we have sex, and you might think that shes only going out with my for revenge on him but it’s not like that at all (kissed me like you meant it)

i don’t think it is, when i’ve see him live he always says ‘this is a song about the best day of my life’ so i’m thinking it’s about a girlfriend who he loves. also would be a bit weird i someone you had a one-night stand with got all emo like ‘my heart is yours to break or burst’, thats a bit much!

This song is about a one night stand at a party, and he doesn’t want to believe that it is meaningless sex so he’s trying to convince himself they have more in common than “this one thing”/sex. that they have actual feelings and “mean it”.

or maybe, just maybe (no….. actually, absolutely certain) that the guy just doesn’t want anything to do with you. coz you’re a really bad woman and not in anyway (as proven by your history, to be a reliable person). and the very first place he’s like you is for your looks alone (i know, shallow, huh?) but have never liked you as a person. he probably has hated you more and more as he came to know you.
