Jay-Z does Wonderwall & 99 Problems – Glastonbury UK 2008

Striding on stage with a guitar slung over his shoulder, he led the crowd in a rendition of Oasis’s “Wonderwall”, smiling throughout, and with wife Beyonce Knowles in attendance, his set included songs such as “99 Problems”. In a radical departure from the indie rock and guitar bands commonly associated with Glastonbury, the festival recruited the New Yorker in a bid to reach out to a younger audience. Michael Eavis, who runs the festival on his dairy farm, admitted they had “stuck their necks out on this one.” Organisers staunchly defended the choice of Jay-Z, despite the slow ticket sales and sniping from Glastonbury veterans like Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher. all rapper like to do is talk about how hard they had it before they got a record deal, rap is annoying and repetitive and sometimes has no meaning to it!

I’m not even a hip hop fan, but you cant knock the impact Jay has had on his genre. He is a talented musician and writer, he’s responsible for so many successful songs its not even funny. Give the guy some credit, he has more talent than either of the Gallagher’s combined.
Oasis are an overrated shit band with big mouths. Jay sing sang it badly on purpose in order to take the piss.. and rightly so. Lol at Chunderwall being a masterpiece.. what a crap overrated song..

@phishthefish Hahaha, man, it’s so hard to assume Jay-Z sucks singing “Wonderwall”? It’s fucking awful! He is a great rapper, but man, how you dare to appear on a stage with an unplugged guitar trying to sing such a masterpiece? He is great as a rapper but Glastonbury is definitely not for him.

How has Rap ruined music? If you’re a person who doesn’t listen to rap, you clearly don’t know enough about it to say something like that. I also dislike Jay-Z, but don’t attack the whole genre. A Tribe Called Quest takes skill, The Roots take skill, it’s not as easy as you may think. When it comes to some rappers, it’s pure poetry., and poetry takes skill.

The REAL musicians are playing behind Jay-Z…the no-names on guitar, drums, bass…Jay-Z coming out with a guitar, clearly he doesn’t know how to play, he just writes things that rhyme, and “talks” them…doesn’t even fucking sing. Rap has just ruined music, it’s disgusting. It DOESN’T belong at Glastonbury just like Noel said…good for him for not being fake. I heard more of the crowd signing wonderwall than 99 problems…

Man he was asked his opinion, and he said rappers shouldn’t be part of Glastonbury…which I happen to agree with. It’s his own fucking opinion, Oasis is bigger in England than fckin Jay-Z…He butchered this, just shows he can’t play an instrument, cant sing…and shit that he writes is exactly that. Its easy to say, he sucks! You could better say, I think he sucks. Because its your opinion… In fact he’s one of the biggest artists around at this time, and if you think that sucks. You should probably ask him, but I think it doesn’t suck.

I really like some of his songs, not all. I’m not saying he’s the best.. but he’s original, like no other.
