I came up with the “I don’t like books because they is ‘too wordy’” line multiple years ago.
So no offence, KW, I’m just speaking truth. I read da pages you put together here and they were most profitic.
Some people gonna give you hard time and say you write like a 6-year-old or maybe you should go back to elementary school and you know they just a bunch a’ haters, throwing rocks as the express train a life pass them by.
Others are gonna say, “Kanye writing a book is like George HW Bush singing hip-hop.” And even if they right, it doesn’t not matter, you are da king and this is the kinda quality we expect from you.

I know reviews so far have been bad. I will say this book is Genius. The wisdom he reveals in the book, is Genius. You can tell when you read the book he has taken advice from some greats who now how to achieve greatness. I believe people who understand Kanye will get past his “ego” and take some great life lessons out of the book. Its a very quick read, but not something quickly forgotten.
Let me end by saying this Kanye didn’t get to the top by worrying about what everyone said.

Another idiotic byproduct of the hip-hop movement…written by an author that finds “words” and “reading” to be more detestable than cholera. Kanye should come to Kansas City, Missouri where we are blessed with one of the worst inner-city school districts in the country. There, he would be welcomed with open arms by our multicultural, liberal, Democratic, politically-correct intelligentsia. He could become a guest lecturer, and read from this wonderful tome to the future criminals, convicts, and dropouts that our illustrious school district produces. I have no doubt that this book would be an improvement in the curriculum of the Kansas City school district!

First off I would like to remind people that this book started out as something of a memento to give out after a show on his last tour not a full-fledged book.Secondly, the hate on Kanye West thing is a growing tiring fad. Of all the artists with well published egos he seems to get the most flack. This is not to say its right but it exists and its just something that’s been bothering me.
Being a frequent reader of his blog I already knew this wouldn’t be a full featured book or open window into his conscience just something to express sayings his says he lives by and it does just that. There are some pages of blank spaces that could/should have been filled but again this is meant of a quick table book.
My favorite quote has to be the “getting use to being used” page. Those who can look past their bias against the author will appreciate the truth behind it and how little it is said. Everyone uses people, to misuse, or overuse is where negative connotations of using someone should come in. That is what this book is about: little things to build upon on your own.
Lastly, Mr. Wests comments about being a proud non reader of books is somewhat disturbing considering he wrote one but that is his personal belief. I,however, do believe in that learning through experience and talking to others gives you a better picture of a culture or topic than a book can. I would recommend this book as a super quick read for people who appreciate random quotes and being able to take away their own message from it. Those who cant stand Mr. West can skip it as you probably wouldn’t care if he had a cure for cancer much less wrote a book with something to take from because you are stuck on his ego and are on the overflowing bandwagon of blind detractors whose only knowledge of his character are the negatives we all possess.

I purchased this book as soon as I could, not knowing what to expect. I found a short book full of interesting ideas and concepts.
Kanye West often says that he does what he does to make people feel something. That could mean that they hate what he does (and from the reviews I’ve read of this book, they hate this book). I respect the risk taken and the ideas presented.
(As a quick soap-box moment…. If you decide that you dislike someone for any minuscule reason, you will probably try to justify that feeling by being additionally negative about that person and whatever that person attempts to do. Perhaps the negativity, pessimism, and closed-mindedness of some would be best left to themselves.)
How one should read this book:
1. Open to a page.
2. Read what is printed.
3. Don’t turn the page….
4. STOP AND THINK!
5. Find a way to apply what you just read to your personal situation.
6. Decide whether or not you want to adjust your situation in the way suggested.
7. Act in the way that is appropriate to your decision.
8. Turn to another page and repeat the previous steps.
Thank you and you’re welcome!
