@mrk9nny this song is about suicide dumbass, its about when metallica had all there band equipment stolen and shit. but when this song got put on the radio teenagers had thoughts of suicide because of hetfields strong emotional lyrics and how you can feel what hetfield was going through. but really this song was about when there band got there band equipment? stolen. and this all happened around the ride the lightning ara, witch is the album of what this song is on.

This song is about about both things. The robbery of the amps and lars and james’? obsession with death when they were younger. But who cares about why, just care that its a fucking awesome song!

@dd22sharpshooter actually, if you look it up James Hetfield said that the lyrical from Fade to Black were a response to the bands amps being stolen, and among that he lost the first amp he ever owned in early 84. He said that it was kind of about having to rebuild what they had, and of course? the amp had sentimental value to him. Its not about suicide, its about being able to pick up where you left off.
