I disagree. In the book 1984 North and South America along with Australia and South Africa made up Oceania. Europe and Russia made up Eurasia. I believe this song is referring to the EU. As it’s governing body is not electable and therefore unaccountable to the people. Authoritarian if you will.

Amen brother. The EU needs to be disbanded. The UK and Germany would be wise to lead the way.

A novel (they made a movie too) about totalitarianism set in a 1940’s setting, written by George Orwell. 1984 and Animal Farm should be (used to be) required reading in school.

No, there’s nothing about the USA in this song, or any of Muse’s songs.

It’s a novel by George Orwell. It basically features an “undefeatable” super state called Eurasia. The song makes a comparison of the real worlds USA to this fictional “superstate of eurasia”.
The whole album is influenced by the book really, songs like “resistance” for example.

I watched it after I had finished with reading. It’s good, although I prefer the book.

@StephZish Exactly, the whole never ending war between Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia although I suspect it’s a comparison between 1984 and the never ending conflicts around the world like Iraq and Afghanistan.

Wonderful piece.

the song is so based on Eurasia in 1984
hence the reference to “wars that cant be won” and “as we do as we’re told”

Ok that piano part at the end sounds hauntingly familiar. Can someone name it? And I agree. Queen song all the way!

I didnt say that, I said it looks like. It may be coinsidence too.. the choirs are just exactly the same. so there are just two choices.. coinsidence or just got it from the used. but i just think muse is to good for that, but this song also is a little queen and another metallica.. sooo. but don’t think im against muse now ^^ muse is AWESOME!

but another YES. De cualquier forma, es una gran canción. This is only a tribute to Eurasia.

I dont think the two are related. Eurasia is just a term for the giant landmass of Europe and Asia.
