Switchfoot – Live in San Diego

Contemporary Christian music artists Switchfoot play a vigorous concert for an enthusiastic hometown audience on Live in San Diego. While eschewing overt references to faith in Christ, songwriter and frontman Jonathan Foreman repeatedly exhorts fans to take control of their lives and become more serious people. Ironically, Switchfoot could embrace that same advice when it comes to their music, which is too safe (same tempo, same vocal on everything) and diffuse to make the i… More >>

Switchfoot is simply outstanding in this concert dvd. This concert features songs from their breakthrough album CD “The Beautiful Letdown”. This album had songs that crossed over into the mainstream “Pop” music scene. Some highlights include the “smash hits” – “Meant to Live”, “Dare You to Move”, “More Than Fine”, & “Gone”. It consists of 11 total songs with an approximate running time of 68 minutes. During the concert the band “testifies” about how great it is to be “saved”. I can definitely related to this because, I am a Christian, and I’m very thankful to be “saved”.

Plus, You get substantial bonus material including the “Meant to Live” Music Video, and “Behind the Scenes” material. I highly recommend this concert dvd, plus the related ones by “Contemporary Christian Rock Bands” of “Jars of Clay”, “Stryper” and “Third Day”. Switchfoot has toured with some of these other bands and they are included in the lastest DVD/CD Combo of Third Day’s “Live Revelations” Tour (Please See My Review of That One Also). Anyway, thanks for reading my review and May God Bless!!!!

Worst DVD I own, reviewers say that the sound is not that good ’cause it’s live. Listen to Goo goo dolls performing in the rain sounded 100 times better than this.

Lacks energy and would trade it for anything else if I could.

I have been a Switchfoot fan, since forever. They originated here in So. Cal, so it’s awesome to see amazing talent come from over here! I was so close to seeing this concert live, but unfortunately could not make it (grrr). I havent seen the dvd yet, but plan on buying it later, but from what I heard, its the next best thing to actually seeing them live. Switchfoot is an amazing band who deserves all of the recognition that they are (finally) getting. One of my friends actually went to this show and said it was really awesome, and I am sure with the added extras, it’s even better. Go buy it, and buy all of their cd’s while you are at it. You wont be disappointed!

With their latest album, The Beautiful Letdown, climbing the charts and grabbing mainstream attention, Switchfoot is the latest rave. Sadly, their first concert video is a bigtime letdown. Capturing a rock concert for the small screen is no easy task, and the wide angle shots and close-ups just aren’t enough. The video fails to capture the sweat and pulse of a real concert, though the audio is worth a listen (select tracks available on iTunes).

The boys should have sprung for the textured look of film as opposed to video and learned a thing or two from bands like U2 about staging and framing a shot. Of course that’s a lot to live up to. We could just enjoy the DVD more as a live recording and turn off the picture.

The extras include the “Meant to Live” video (ho-hum: band rocks hard while some guy literally cuts down the walls — ooh, deep!), a behind the scenes look at the video (even more ho-hum), and a short interview with the band where they speak candidly about faith and art.
