Vol. 3: Life and Times of S. Carter

On The Life and Times of S. Carter, Jay-Z’s century-closing guaranteed-platinum album, he compares his hit-making prowess to that of Michael Jackson–the unspoken difference being that Jigga appears to be far from wearing out his commercial welcome. For good reason, too; not only is the Roc-A-Fella king maker one prolific rapper and writer, his output is of high enough quality to keep heads ringin’. While there’s no single classic on the order of “Hard Knock Life” here, coll… More >>

Vol. 3, Jay-Z’s worst. After releasing a classic and two solid albums, there is a bad note. Here is where Jay-Z is extremely commercialized with songs like “So Ghetto” and “Big Pimpin”, featuring UGK (average Texas rappers, Pimp C and Bun B). There are good songs like “Watch Me” featuring Dr. Dre, and “Things That U Do”, featuring Mariah Carey.
I reccomend The Life and Times of S. Carter to any fan of current rap, Juelz Santana and Twista.

My goodness…where to start? First of all, no one with a lower lip THAT big should try to act hardcore. Jay tries to fit into that typical thug image associated with DMX, 2Pac, etc and it just doesn’t work. His songs lack originality and attitude. Jigga’s voice is slower and more dull than ever (i know, it’s hard to believe after suffering through Hard Knock Life). I could go on for hours criticizing this joke of a rap album, but I’d rather sit back and listen to my new DMX album, which you would be much better off buying. One love
