whats the most depressing about this album is how amazing it is, the music is some of the best, BUT when it came out it was regarded as a total waste of time, which almost killed rivers, but when all the emo kids found it on the internet, it turned into a classic, and the only skeptic was in fact rivers cuomo himself, the very man who poured his heart out into an album of pure genious, only to have it turned away by blind reviewers, but this album will forever live on as the best emo album ever

Yeah, I did a fair bit of research. I know a lot of hardcore bands were associated with the genre. I heard Husker Du was. All I can say is, the mainstream ruins (or tries to ruin) everything.
