Why does Evanescence sing a song with a really awful swear word?

Posted by Top Songs

I’ve always loved Evanescence and thought I was listening to really nice christian music, but I was listening to Thoughtless the other day and had to back up and I was thinking ‘Wow! There’s no way this is Evanescence!’ But it was! I was shocked that Evanescence would use that kind of language and those kind of lyrics. Any explanations?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Evanescence#.22Christian_rock.22_controversy

When asked by Billboard in 2006 if Evanescence was a “Christian band,” Amy Lee responded, “Can we please skip the Christian thing? I’m so over it. It’s the lamest thing. I fought that from the beginning; I never wanted to be associated with it. It was a Ben thing. It’s over.”

There was a controversy about it since their first album was marketed as christian music.

No one is asking you to listen to it.
They are not even remotely christian.
If you can’t handle it, then perhaps you should listen to Jonus Brothers or Miley Cyrus

Evanescence never claimed to be Christian.Thoughtless was a song by a rock band named Korn, and Evanescence just covered the song, meaning they quoted any word in that song…

evanescence is not a christian band. amy lee is dating/was dating scott from seether, and if she was christian she wouldn’t consider dating someone who is so anti christian in his songs. whoever told you that evanescence was a christian band was WAY wrong and needs to check their facts. evanescence is a rock or possibly pop band, but mostly rock-not christian. if you want to listen to some nice christian music then you should listen to love 89.1 or something like that. anything you hear on 102.1 or whatever is not christian(not to say that 102.1 doesn’t play christian music, but don’t automatically think it’s christian).

Evanescence is not a christian band. The members may follow christianity but this does not mean they are a christian band. As for the song, Evanescence did not write it. It was a cover of one of Korn’s songs.

Evanescence are the best band ever though!!

What a coincidence, I’m listening to Evanescence right now. “Whisper,” to be exact. Anyways the band isn’t really that Christian, and the first answer does a good job of explaining that. You may question that with their songs like “Tourniquet,” “Bring Me to Life,” and maybe even “The Only One.” Most of their lyrics are dark and powerful yet they are loved my many especially me, hehe :) . I love how on the last track of the Open Door they have “Good Enough.” It’s a wonderful song to end the album with. Okay so now I’m probably rambling, but I hope this answer helps. :)

It’s not their song.
It’s a Korn cover.
Evanescence is not a Christian band, anyways.

how the hell did you ever think evanescence was “good christian music”? just because a song doesn’t have explicit lyrics doesn’t mean it’s good christian music. I’m sure a lot of amy’s songs are about suicide and other stuff. it doesn’t mean anything just because she doesn’t cuss. Plus, you should really get over it, it’s just a word.

and thoughtless isn’t even written by Ev. It’s a Korn song.
